Picture Update:  6-18-14: Lately Lil Brother and I have mostly just been preparing for the big day! Lots of grooming and working on important stuff :) As you can see my little sister has stolen my horse! She knows I'm a sucker ;) it makes me happy knowing that Lil Brother is a natural babysitter, and that will make him an awesome kids horse.  We finally got the trailer loading down, and our finale perfected :) I'd say we're feeling pretty goid about this Sunday!

Video Update:  6-18-14: As you can see, I am simply telling my 3 yr old little sister, Georgia, what to do :) she did it all by herself! She says Lil Brother's her new pony ;) I am so proud of this little horse, we've both come so far! He is the first horse I've officially trained from the start :) I can't believe how much I love this little guy, he doesn't have a mean bone in his body! He's the perfect kid's horse :)

Picture Update:  6-11-14: These pictures were from the other night when we were just going through and over some scary obstacles, and my mom decided she wanted to jump around on the mattress with Lil Brother! She danced, did jumping jacks, AND was making scary noises and he didn't even care :) I feel like a proud mother! I'm starting to feel a lot more relaxed and ready for the competition finally!

Video Update:  6-10-14: So far, Lil Brother's biggest fear has been the tarp. It's one of those things that he just can't seem to get over! But after working on it and working with him, he finally accepts the fact that it's not going to eat him! Yay Lil Brother! Now we're on to the umbrella :) I predict that he will be just fine.

Picture Update:  6-4-14: These pics are from the gymkana the other day in Middletown, during our barrel run :) Lil Brother is becoming quite the little rodeo horse! He turns so naturally and boy can he move! After all of his hard work, he finally gets a couple days off!! A lot of the times when you give your colts some time off it helps their training and keeps it so that even when they get time off, they never get worse. I'm hoping that's the case with this lil guy!!

Video Update:  6-4-14: This is a video from a couple days ago, when we were just goofing off in the arena. This was actually my first time really swinging a rope off of him at all, and he did perfect! I'm thinking about making him my next little heel horse (team roping). This lucky boy is getting a few days off to just be a horse again. It's always good to give your colts some time off when you've been riding them steady, it gives them time to process and be horse again. Often times, they come back better than when you let them off!!

Video Update:  5-28-14: This video was taken at Potter Valley the night before the junior rodeo. Rosie, my sister, and I had a lot of free time as you can see lol so we decided to goof off a little! He did perfect with another person on his back :) even had a nice stop too! He did so well at the rodeo with all the little kids running around and flags and what not. He also did good tied up to a trailer camping for 3 days! He's much more settled now :)

Picture Update:  5-28-14: This last weekend, Lil Brother and I went the Potter Valley Junior Rodeo! We stayed there for about 3 days while I roped and competed. I didn't ride him in the actual rodeo but he was there right in the middle of all the excitement. He did so awesome! I just jumped on him bareback and in a halter and could ride him around no problem :) He's really starting to settle down and make a nice horse. In the other pictures I'm standing on his back and in the other one he's laying down. I don't think I've ever bonded with a horse so much♥

Update:  5-28-14: The past couple of weeks have been super chaotic due to finals and graduation, but we've been trying to get everything together for the finale. I think we're both a little nervous because a lot of the other contestants are doing amazing, but we're gunna try our best :) we've been mostly working on slowing down, because Lil Brother is such a naturally hot horse. He tries to go as fast as he can all the time, which is not very good for this competition,  but hopefully we can reach that goal :) I love him, and he's a winner in my eyes♥

Picture Update:  5-21-14: In these pictures, Lil Brother had a lesson on laying down! He did amazing he's so willing and trusting it was easy. This added a lot to our bond :) In the other picture, we temporarily moved his pen over to a nice grassy area so he can graze! He loves it :) he's FINALLY starting to settle down and realize that it's ok to not go a million miles an hour all the time! Getting excited for the finale!

Video Update:   5-21-14: This video is basically exactly what our daily routine starts with. We always trot out into the hills to build muscle and to get our minds right, it's the perfect warm up! This settles him down quite a bit and gets a good sweat going. Most of the time it's just me, him and the dogs, but sometimes Lily comes with us! We're so lucky to have these mountains in our backyard :)

Picture Update:  5-15-14: These pictures are from last weekend's gymkana in Middletown! Lil Brother did so well with all of the chaos and he did so well during the runs. After pole bending, Lil Brother and I drug the poles out of the arena :) his handle was spectacular and all of his focus was on me! I'm a proud mamma!

Video Update:  5-15-14: So this last Saturday, Lil Brother and I went to our second gymkana! He did absolutely amazing. We placed 5th place all day, and everyone was impressed with how gentle and trusting he is. Gymkanas are great for settling horses because there are a bunch of different events that you go through and the horse is around loud noises and kids running everywhere. He came out of the day a different horse I am So impressed :) love this lil guy!

Picture Update:  5-9-14: So lately Lil Brother and I have been working on mellowing out. He finally has reached the handle I was shooting for, now it's time for settling down :) in this picture I am riding Lil Brother Bridleless. It took a little while but he listens so well. The thing about making a touchy horse, is that they don't settle down until they've learned their job.

Picture Update:  4-30-14: In these pictures, we are riding around Bridleless which is pretty cool I think! He's such a quick learner though so that's the main reason why he's doing so good. In the other picture, we took our first trail ride on the highway! He didn't mind the cars one bit :) he's such a trooper! So excited that he's doing so good :)

Video Update:  4-30-14: As you can see from this video, Lil Brother and I have been working on a lot! This little guy can move, he naturally wants to slide, and because he moves off of pressure so well, he's a natural spinner! He listens to my Ques so well, you can tell he really wants to please. He's such a quick learner! All of the time consuming trust exercises really are paying off. It's been kind of difficult lately to get him more settled, but that's what happens when you make a super touchy horse.I finally got him going over the tarp perfect, now he just needs to learn that he doesn't need to spook at anything else! So excited about how well he's doing :)

Picture Update:  4-23-14: For the past couple of weeks, we've really been working on accepting the tarp. He still is pretty skittish,  but this seems to be his only fear. In these pictures, Lil Brother successfully walks over the tarps without batting an eye. As we continue working on the tarp, we also work on basic maneuvers and tasks. He is naturally a well moving horse so slide stopping, roll backs and turn arounds are no problem for him. He's finally starting to get used to crowds and random people approaching him as well.

Picture Update: 4-9-14: Lil Brother and I decided it was time to step up our training. He perfectly executes a slide stop, sidepass and back up! We finally got him over being afraid of puddles, and doesn't mind loud noises. In these pictures we had just got him over being spooked of the tarp; this was definitely not an easy process. About 30 minutes later he had no problems with the tarp anymore. Thank goodness he's smart and got over it quick! Now are next goals are spinning and loaping circles!

Video Update: 3-31-14: Lil Brother and I went to our first gymkana this last weekend! This was our first time in public and his first time ever seeing the barrels. He did awesome!  Lately we've just been working on fine tuning and getting him bullet proof. He still pretty nervous of a lot of things, but he's definitely getting better. My judgment says that he will eventually be a kids horse, he's a natural babysitter :)

Picture Update: 3-19-14: In these pictures, I was just leading him around the ranch getting him used to stuff, and my boyfriend wanted to stop to take a couple pictures! One of these pictures we actually used as a sponsorship photo for everyone whose sponsored me. Lately we've been riding around the ranch, in the hills and in the arena. No one's ever around so it's hard to get pictures of that! Anyways, he's been doing so good, he's super light and has an awesome stop. The way he learns is so quick it's like riding a broke horse!

Video Update: 3-19-14: In this video I'm demonstrating mine and Lil Brother's bond. As you can see, he trusts me to the fullest! His progress is amazing. From trail riding to arena work, he never ceases to amaze me! He naturally wants to give to pressure which makes the training process nice :)  So far, Lil Brother can easily be caught, has a nice slide stop and side pass, and backs up. He's easy going in the arena, and loves being out on the trail. Nothing phases this horse! From tarps to empty grain bags he doesn't seem to mind pretty much anything.

Video Update: 3-13-14: So the past week and a half have consisted of riding Lil Brother. He's so gentle and easy going it's like riding broke horse! :) As you can see, he loves being outside. In this video, we were on our second trail ride and he did amazing! Usually the first couple trail rides on a colt you have someone go with you so the colt can follow and of course if anything went wrong someone would be there, but I didn't have anyone to go with me and he did perfect.

Picture Update: 2-26-14: In these pictures from this week, we did a lot of ground work. We worked on getting him over noisy stuff and establishing who is the boss in our relationship ;) Lil Brother is one of the smartest horses I've ever worked with and I love him already :) you can tell he likes working with me almost as much as I do. His ears are always forward and his attention is always on me. He is so willing I can't wait to see the horse he's going to turn out to be :)

Video Update: 2-26-14: This week we worked on trust! As you can see he trusts me fully :) in this video I have absolutely nothing on him, not a halter or a rope and he lets me rub a noisy (scary) grain bag full of cans! Lil Brother is always looking at me with ears forward and everything :) Setting a foundation for a horse has to be one of the most important things when it comes to training just about anything. Not only does Lil Brother trust me, but he also likes me working with him. He is one of the smartest horses I've ever worked with. Love this little guy :)

Picture Update: 2-18-14: So far these past couple of weeks we've been working on trust and respect. I wish I could work with him all day long but even with his days off and everything he still remember all of his training. In these pictures from this past week you can see that I was actually able to ride him! He trusts me so much, climbing on his back wasn't a problem at all. He's not afraid of the saddle, bridle or me. Love this little guy! If it wasn't for him being so gentle and willing he wouldn't be so far along so fast.

Video Update: 2-18-14: Due to the weather, the fact that I go to school for most of the day, and that I had a high school rodeo over the weekend, I've been expecting Lil Brother to forget all of the training he has on him, but this little sucker is smart. He is so trusting that he lets me violently wave a noisy cattle paddle all around his head and body. As you can see in the video, he doesn't flinch at the paddle at all and his attention is on me. Loving the bond we have :)

Video Update: 2-12-14: After successfully halter breaking Lil Brother, we worked our way towards the first ride. In order to be able to even get the saddle or pad anywhere near him, we spent an entire week working soley on trust. He is a naturally head shy horse so we have been working on that as well. I've never met a horse more willing. He has such a kind eye and heart and is honest in everything he does. Today was the first day we officially saddled and bridled him up! He trusts me so much, that the saddling process didn't even faze him, what a quick learner. Next step: riding.

Picture Update: 2-5-14: Tuesday, the day after we picked our horses up on Monday the 3rd, we worked on pressure and release. I did this by saddling up my own horse, and approaching my colt. Once my colt responded to the pressure, I backed off. This sets the stage for a good foundation in the horse breaking process. Once my horse and I learned to respect one another, I put him into a chute where I was able to pet him down and put the halter on. Once I got the halter on, I opened the chute and let him figure out the way a halter works. After about 30 minutes, I was successfully able to lead my colt around and pet him. What a huge accomplishment considering how wild he was.
